BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a hospice operator has agreed to pay a $3.92 million settlement over false claims that were submitted to the government.

Authorities said Thursday that CLP HealthcareServices, parent company of Hospice Compassus, agreed to settle allegations that the company submitted false claims for patients who were not eligible for their care.

Authorities say the settlement stemmed from a whistle blower lawsuit that was filed by two former Hospice Compassus employees. Prosecutors say the federal government will pay about $712,000 to the people who filed the suit against the company.
