OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - A jury has been selected in the trial of a man charged in a deadly shooting on a community college campus in Opelika.
Twelve jurors and four alternates were seated Wednesday afternoon in the capital murder case of 37-year-old Thomas Franklin May III.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports (https://bit.ly/1oPCIX9) that the jury will be sworn in at 9 a.m. Monday in a Lee County courtroom, with both sides then delivering opening statements.
May is charged with murder in the gunshot slaying of his mother-in-law, Brenda Watson, at Southern Union State Community College in 2011.
He’s also charged with attempted murder in the wounding of his estranged wife, their daughter and his wife’s grandmother. All four females were in a car together when the shooting started.
May is using an insanity defense.
