PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A Detroit federal judge has testified in a Port Huron court about a 1987 murder trial conducted when he was a prosecutor.

Temujin Kensu was convicted of killing a man in a college parking lot. The Michigan Supreme Court granted Kensu a hearing to explore the handling of photos used to identify him as a suspect in the death of Scott Macklem.

The Port Huron Times Herald reports (https://bwne.ws/1nmRfy7 ) the photos displayed for the jury were different than photos shown to witnesses who identified Kensu in a lineup.

Robert Cleland, prosecutor in 1987, says he told jurors the photos had been enlarged, but he didn’t mention they were cropped.

Kensu, also known as Fred Freeman, insists he was out of town when Macklem was killed.
