THORNTON, Colo. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been formally charged with starting a fire at a suburban Denver condominium complex last week.
Adams County prosecutor Dave Young on Wednesday announced that Martin (Mar-TEEN’) C. Espinoza has been charged with 10 counts of attempted first-degree murder, 31 counts of first-degree arson, four counts of third-degree assault and 10 counts of crime of violence.
Espinoza was among the people who gathered to watch the fire that destroyed 18 condominiums and was interviewed by a television reporter.
Two residents and two firefighters were injured in the fire.
Espinoza is being held in the Adams County Jail pending his preliminary hearing scheduled for April 2 in Adams County Court. The district attorney’s office says he is asking to be represented by a public defender.
