GRETNA, La. (AP) - A state judge in Jefferson Parish has sentenced a Terrebonne Parish man to 25 years in prison, after pleading guilty to raping a woman in Kenner.

The Times-Picayune reports (bit.ly/1hXdszy) 25-year-old Michael Voisin, of Gray, pleaded guilty Tuesday to forcible rape, for the May 2012 assault on a public street.

Voisin was set to stand trial this week but instead pleaded guilty.



Judge Lee Faulkner accepted the plea and handed down the sentence.

Forcible rape carries a sentencing range of five to 40 years in prison. Voisin also will have to register as a sex offender.
