HAMMOND, La. (AP) - The City Council has authorized spending more than $65,800 for playground equipment and other improvements at a recreation area in the impoverished Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Grants Director Lacy Landrum tells The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1fvhmKS ) that $20,000 of the overall project cost will come through a grant from the Ka Boom Foundation, which helps communities build playgrounds.

Volunteers will assemble the equipment, which is being purchased from a Baton Rouge company.
