TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) - Jack Stephan, whose plumbing company commercials flooded Southern California airwaves with the signature line: Adee do!,” has died. He was 96.

His son, Jack Jr., tells the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/MuIJfq ) that Stephan died of natural causes on Saturday at a Torrance hospital.

Stephan founded Jack Stephan Plumbing & Heating in 1946 and Adee Plumbing & Heating in 1949.

He began TV advertising in 1965. In some commercials, an announcer asks who cleans drains or fixes plumbing problems. The answer: “Adee do!”

Stephan said the answer became so well-known that some people thought “do” was part of the company name.

In other commercials, an announcer asked who could fix plumbing problems and answered “Jack Stephanski” or some other mispronunciation. An actor playing a plumber then would correct: “It’s Jack Stephan!”
