KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Firefighters spent hours trying to contain a blaze at a recycling facility in Kansas City, Kan.

Fire deputy chief Craig Duke says the fire Wednesday at a Deffenbaugh Recycling plant burned most of the 7 tons of material kept there. No injuries were reported.

Duke says the fire caused heavy damage to an open-air structure that housed some of the recyclables.

The Kansas City Star reports (https://bit.ly/1psP5y4 ) a vehicle in a nearby parking lot also caught fire, and firefighters had to put out a small grass fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
