NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A man has been injured in a fire that started in the basement of a house in North Platte.

The North Platte Fire Department says crews were dispatched a little after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire Chief Dennis Thompson says firefighters found the man at the back door of the house. They pulled him outside and began CPR.

The man was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center and then flown to a Lincoln hospital. Thompson says the man had suffered airway burns from smoke and heat in the house.

The man was identified as 58-year-old Randy Mills.

Investigators say the fire began in the basement but weren’t sure of the cause yet.
