WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania woman has pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend 2½ years ago.
The (Wilkes-Barre) Times Leader (https://bit.ly/QFAsrP ) reports that a 30-year-old Jessica Alinsky of Shenandoah entered the plea Wednesday in Luzerne County Court.
Alinsky had originally said that 34-year-old Matthew Gailie shot himself in the face during a September 2011 dispute at their Hazle Township home. Prosecutors alleged that she tried to stage the scene as a suicide.
She was charged with homicide and evidence-tampering following an inquest.
The (Wilkes-Barre) Citizens’ Voice reported that Alinsky tearfully said while leaving court “I would never hurt him. Time will tell and the truth will come out.”
She could face a maximum term of 40 years when she is sentenced next month.
