CARSON, Calif. (AP) — The 14-year-old son of a federal agent was arrested Thursday in the shooting death of his father in their Southern California home, authorities said.
The boy was arrested at his home in Carson, which is 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Deputy Guillermina Saldana said. No motive for the shooting was released.
The boy called 911 shortly before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and reported that his father had been shot in the back of the head by a bullet fired into their home from the backyard, Sgt. Dana Ellison said.
The 40-year-old agent was found in the television room of the two-story home, which is on a tidy street near a school. He was shot with a handgun and was dead when deputies arrived, Deputy Saldana said.
It was unclear whether anyone else was in the home at the time of the shooting, she added.
The agent’s name was not immediately released, but he had worked for ICE for four years, Deputy Saldana said. He worked on homeland security investigations, the federal agency said.
“This is a difficult time for ICE, especially for the family and loved ones of the agent. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,’ ICE Director John Morton said in a statement.
