In this Sept. 8, 2017 photo, Nancy Fischer, 79, cheers alongside the Alleman High School cheerleaders 61 years after graduating from high school, during a game in Rock Island, Ill. As a youngster, Fischer had to pay her way through high school, $50 per year, so she took on as many babysitting jobs as time would allow. But the heavy workload kept her from an extracurricular activity she longed to be a part of. She wished she had the opportunity to be a cheerleader. So a friend bid on the "Be an "Honorary Cheerleader'' silent-auction package and won it for Fischer. (Meg McLaughlin/The Dispatch via AP)
