Verdugo, whose mentally challenged daughter died at age 49-year-old of cardiac arrest in a Southern California Target retail store. Verdugo filed a wrongful death lawsuit, arguing that Target should have had a defibrillator on hand to jolt her daughter’s heart back to beating. Some 300,000 Americans suffer cardiac arrest each year and defibrillators increase the survival rate of victims from 8 percent to 30 percent, according to the American Heart Association.
