Rudy Blanco was 8 when he was brought from the port of Mariel by his parents in 1980. He now has a family and owns a home-remodeling business in Perry, Florida. Because he was convicted of attempting to sell cocaine in 1998, he wasn’t allowed to become a U.S. citizen and instead received an order of deportation by mail in 2005. Blanco was allowed to stay as long as he made routine visits to Immigration and Customs Enforcement. However, he was arrested on May 9 and is now awaiting deportation.
