Daniel Dockery bonded with a stray cat he named Scruffy. When he couldn't afford the cost of treating the cat for a wound, he gave it to the Arizona Humane Society with the understanding the society would treat it and place it in foster care. The cat was euthanized instead, inspiring a flood of critical phone calls, emails and Facebook postings. (Associated Press)
