Vice President J.D. Vance announced Tuesday that he’ll release a new book about converting to Catholicism as an adult.

The book, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” goes on sale June 16 from the HarperCollins Publishers imprint. It is Mr. Vance’s first book since “Hillbilly Elegy,” the best-selling memoir from 2016 that catapulted him to the national spotlight.

“I’ve been writing this book for a long time and I’m honored to finally be able to share the full story with you all,” Mr. Vance wrote on X. “’Communion’ is about my personal journey and how I found my way back to faith.”

In a statement, Mr. Vance said the book will answer the question about why the “Christian faith of his youth failed to properly take root.”

Mr. Vance’s faith has shifted over the years.

He grew up an evangelical Christian, but evolved to atheism and then to Catholicism. He converted in 2019 and has hailed his faith as giving him the foundation he didn’t feel he had while attending Yale University or working in the financial industry.

He told The American Conservative in 2019 that he was raised an evangelical, but never had a strong attachment to any denomination.

“When I became more interested in faith, I started out with a clean slate, and looked at the church that appealed most to me intellectually,” he said at the time.

The book announcement is expected to fuel speculation that Mr. Vance will seek the presidency in 2028. So far, he’s dismissed questions about running for president, saying he’s focused on his current job and planned to wait until after the 2026 midterms to make his decision.

Mr. Vance’s book announcement follows Monday’s announcement by his wife, second lady Usha Vance, that she launched a podcast to promote childhood literacy. The couple has three young children and a fourth due in July.
