President Trump ripped into Spain and the U.K. on Tuesday over their reluctance to help the war effort against Iran.
Mr. Trump suggested he would cut off trade with Spain after its leaders refused to let the U.S. use its bases to launch strikes against Tehran’s regime.
“They were unfriendly. Spain has absolutely nothing that we need. They have great people, but they don’t have great leadership. We’re gonna cut off all trade with Spain; we don’t want anything to do with Spain,” the president said during a White House meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Mr. Trump also said he remains unhappy with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his decision to hand control of the Chagos Islands — home to a U.K.-U.S. base — to Mauritius.
Mr. Starmer initially denied the U.S. the use of its bases for the bombing, but later amended his position to allow limited use, namely to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities.
“This is not Winston Churchill we are dealing with,” Mr. Trump said.
