Todd Meadows, a deckhand on the Discovery Channel reality series “Deadliest Catch,” died Feb. 25 while crabbing in Alaskan waters.

One of the show’s stars, Captain Rick Shelford, announced the death on social media, calling it “the most tragic day in the history” of his boat.

Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family,” Captain Shelford posted on Facebook. “His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always. …”

A GoFundMe campaign described Mr. Meadows as a beloved father, son, brother and friend who died doing what he loved.

Mr. Meadows was 25.
