OPINION:
I still remember when the U.S. Embassy in Tehran was overrun in 1979 and Americans were held hostage for 444 days. I remember the yellow ribbons being wrapped around trees, as if those ribbons would free the captives and bring them home.
I remember the 241 U.S. Marines and sailors killed in their sleep in Beirut after the embassy bombing. I remember the Iran-provided improvised explosive devices killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the USS Cole being attacked, killing 17 American crew members in Yemen.
I remember Iranians chanting, “Death to America!” while secretly making bigger bombs to kill more Americans. I remember seven American presidents saying on the campaign trail how big a threat Iran was to the U.S. and the world — while being afraid to do anything once they got into office.
One American president (in name only) apologized and bowed to the entire Middle East while running scared and pontificating to fakes who fainted at his words. Another couldn’t complete a thought or a sentence and probably couldn’t point to Iran on a map.
I remember that for 47 years, Iranians killed and plotted to kill Americans while chanting and bragging about it in the streets and on television screens throughout the world.
No one cares why or how Democratic politicians and anti-American followers of CNN have forgotten the killings of so many Americans or the fact that for nearly five decades, Iran has been at war with the United States. It is one of the more important reasons Americans rose up and twice elected a real American president.
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would be proud of Donald Trump for a spectacular mission extremely well done. Mr. Trump is showing how the American military must and should be used, how to be bold and courageous, how to make the toughest decisions, and how to start and finish a mission that could no longer be avoided.
