The National Park Service has closed Fort Washington Park in Prince George’s County indefinitely, after the U.S. Park Police found several devices resembling pipe bombs there Sunday and Monday.
The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department said that bomb squad technicians deactivated the devices.
Five devices were discovered Sunday in the park and several others were found Monday, officials said.
The Baltimore field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives described the second set of explosives as “suspected pipe bomb devices,” adding that investigators believe the bombs were not placed in the remote area where they were found.
The ATF and the U.S. Park Police said there is no active threat to the public.
The National Park Service, which operates Fort Washington Park, closed it Sunday after the first devices were found. The park is closed until further notice, according to its website.
