President Trump said Sunday that the Democratic Party is public enemy No. 1 in the aftermath of his decision to green-light military strikes against Iran.
“Now with the death of Iran, the greatest enemy America has is the Radical Left, Highly Incompetent, Democrat Party!” Mr. Trump posted Sunday on Truth Social.
The comment drew a stiff rebuke from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who argued that the war with Iran is not going as planned and accused the administration of having no clear path forward.
“They have got no vision, no plan, no exit strategy,” Mr. Jeffries, New York Democrat, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “They clearly didn’t anticipate some of the things that have happened, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Mr. Jeffries said the conflict, which he called a “reckless war of choice,” is already costing more than $30 billion and driving up gas prices — adding to what he described as an already punishing economic environment for American families.
He said Democrats plan to move a war powers resolution to bring the conflict to a close, and he expressed strong opposition to a reported Pentagon request for more than $200 billion in additional war funding.
“We should not be spending billions of dollars per day at this point in time to drop bombs in the Middle East,” Mr. Jeffries said.
When asked about Mr. Trump’s Truth Social post calling Democrats the greatest enemy America has, Mr. Jeffries did not hold back.
“Donald Trump should keep his reckless mouth shut before he gets somebody killed,” he said.
