OPINION:
Ask President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu how the war on Iran is progressing and they both say: winning.
That’s despite headlines like this, from The Washington Post: “U.S.-Israeli rift widens over potential end game in Iran.”
As Alex Traiman, CEO and Jerusalem bureau chief for JNS.org said, on the heels of a private press conference with Netanyahu — such news isn’t true.
America may have slightly different longterm goals when it comes to the geopolitical situation of the entire Middle East, he said. For instance, Trump’s ultimate goal is to beat back the influence of China around the world. And along that path, he sees calming turmoil in the Mideast as crucial.
So when the White House talks about a friendship with Qatar, Israelis see that as potentially concerning, but also understand that Trump is trying to counter the Belt and Road Initiative that China has developed as a means of spreading its communist rot around the world.
When it comes to seeing the enemy called radical Islamism, Israel’s war is America’s war is the entire West’s war, Traiman said.
