A Virginia State Police trooper shot and killed a knife-wielding man, identified as Jared Llamado, after he attacked four people, including fatally stabbing a woman and a dog, during a weekend road rage incident on Interstate 495.

The attack started following a crash around 1:15 p.m. Sunday between the exits for Little River Turnpike and Gallows Road on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway, authorities said.

Police said Llamado, 32, got out of his car after the crash and began stabbing other motorists.

The suspect fatally wounded Michelle Adams, 39, and killed a pet dog in one of the cars, police said.

Three women suffered serious knife injuries in the attack. Officials identified those victims as Dana Bonnell, 36; Mary C. Flood, 37; and 40-year-old Heather Miller.

State police said a trooper arrived on the scene and told the armed man to drop his knife. The suspect instead confronted the trooper, who opened fire on the attacker.

Mr. Llamado was taken to a local hospital. He eventually died from his injuries.

Police said they don’t believe the road rage incident had any connection to the U.S. military’s strike on Iran, as the Islamic regime is known for inspiring lone wolf terror attacks after being targeted.

The trooper was put on leave while investigators review the shooting. The trooper wasn’t harmed in the altercation.

The incident shut down the Beltway for hours on Sunday, leaving drivers in standstill traffic as authorities.
