Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, was ordered to pay a former contractor $140,000 for lost wages and medical expenses from work on the rapper’s Malibu mansion renovation, multiple news outlets report.

Ye had agreed to pay contractor Tony Saxon $20,000 per week under a 2021 deal but paid only one $20,000 installment plus $100,000 for construction costs, according to a lawsuit.

Mr. Saxon also claims he was fired in November 2021 for refusing to complete what he called “dangerous requests.”

The verdict was announced Wednesday morning, with the Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarding far less than the $1.7 million the contractor had sought.

Mr. Saxon’s attorneys called it a mixed outcome.

A spokesperson for Ye said Mr. Saxon acted as an unlicensed contractor on the entertainer’s $57 million mansion, which legally bars the damages award under California law.

The spokesperson said Ye plans to seek post-trial relief from the court.
