The FBI on Tuesday boosted the reward for information leading to the arrest of a top 10 fugitive accused of a 2019 murder in the Los Angeles area to $1 million.

The FBI says that on Aug. 15, 2019, suspect Omar Alexander Cardenas, now 30, shot another man several times in the head with a handgun at a shopping center in Sylmar, California, about 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles. He was locally charged with murder in 2020 and federally charged with unlawful fleeing to avoid prosecution in 2021.

The FBI’s listing for Mr. Cardenas does not identify the victim, but KCBS-TV says he was 46-year-old Jabali Dumas, who authorities believe knew Mr. Cardenas.

Mr. Cardenas was put on the FBI’s list in 2022. Initially, the FBI offered $100,000 for information leading to his arrest, upping it to $250,000 in 2022 ahead of the current $1 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Mexico is not safe for you, Mr. Cardenas, if that’s where you’re hiding,” said FBI Los Angeles Field Office Assistant Director Akil Davis, according to ABC News.

Mr. Cardenas is described by the FBI as a Hispanic man weighing about 250 pounds and standing about 5-foot-6, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. The bureau also mentioned that he often has a beard and wears prescription eyeglasses.
