Prince George’s County erupts in 2 fatal shootings

Prince George’s County police nabbed suspects in two deadly shootings as the Maryland county witnessed a bloody start to the new year. 

Authorities said both arrests took place on Monday, with one of the suspects tracked down in Fairfax County, Virginia, following the shootings that occurred over the weekend.

Police said they took Damonte Marcel Williams, 26, into custody after linking him to several shootings Sunday in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, that left one man dead and two others injured.

Officers found the first victim, 65-year-old Joseph Holt, suffering from a gunshot wound inside his car near Watkins Park Plaza around 7:20 a.m. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.

Just after 8 p.m. Sunday, police said they received reports of a man who was shot inside his car in the 12000 block of Darlenen Street in Kettering, Maryland. As officers responded to that shooting, police said they found a woman, also in her vehicle, suffering from a bullet wound a few blocks away on Cambleton Drive.

The woman remains in a hospital in critical, but stable condition, while the man is in stable condition, police said. 

Authorities said a third person was shot at while in a car but wasn’t hit by the gunfire.

Police said they believe all the victims were randomly targeted.

Mr. Williams faces murder and attempted murder charges in connection with the crimes.

Prince George’s County police said their officers and U.S. Marshals captured Antonio Lancaster, 39, in Fairfax County after he was linked to a fatal shooting on Saturday in Temple Hills, Maryland.

Police said Mr. Lancaster killed 27-year-old Ronez Proctor after opening fire on two men outside a banquet hall around 2:10 a.m. Saturday.

Officials said Mr. Lancaster was with his friend, 33-year-old Pierre Davis, who traded gunfire with the victim’s friend, 26-year-old Kevon Medley Williams. Mr. Davis and Mr. Williams were mortally wounded in the shooting.

Officials said Mr. Lancaster fled to Virginia until he was arrested by Prince George’s police, with help from Fairfax County police and federal agents.

The suspect was charged with murder after being accused of killing Mr. Proctor.
