OPINION:
Perhaps Nicolas Maduro missed the advice that “Jaw, jaw is better than war, war,” but President Trump did not (“Maduro, donning prison uniform, pleads not guilty in first appearance before judge in NYC,” Web, Jan. 5).
We are advised that Mr. Trump attempted more than once to usher the illegitimate president of Venezuela and sticky-fingered drug thug into retirement before triggering a kinetic law enforcement action. Now that the operation has been successful, we must attend to the post-op period, for the resource-wealthy country is wounded and many hands are reaching for the spoils.
This will be far more of a challenge than June’s Operation Midnight Hammer in Iran. The ramifications stretch all over the globe and into domestic politics if initial American triumph morphs into subsequent chaos.
