OPINION:
Perhaps the recent liquid-spraying attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar was pre-arranged, as President Trump has suggested (“Jeffries says Trump’s comments about attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar ‘fan the flames’, ” Web, Jan. 28). And that could be the reason Ms. Omar did not get medically checked after being sprayed with a foul-smelling, vinegary substance.
An attack on Ms. Omar would be the perfect red herring to take the focus of the day care fraud in Minnesota, as well as the investigation into the politician’s rags-to-riches financial status.
If it was a real attack, someone was not doing their job in checking those attending the town hall event where it happened.
Were the situation reversed, with President Trump or another prominent Republican the victim of such an attack, the Democrats would have immediately blamed it on the victim’s “dangerous rhetoric.”
But in the meantime, let us hope that this is a wake-up call. All those attending political events need to be thoroughly checked for any type of weapon.
