Elections are supposed to have consequences, but Democrats and some federal judges don’t seem to agree. Paid activists are trying to fashion the semblance of outrage over federal immigration enforcement efforts in Minnesota so they can override the choice the public made in November 2024.

Americans voted to reverse the unchecked immigration policies of prior administrations, and their minds haven’t changed. New York Times/Siena University pollsters last week found more people than not endorse President Trump’s ejection of people living in the country illegally.

As with most other issues these days, Democrats skew the numbers, with 85% opposition, versus 83% support among Republicans. A majority of independents are on board with deportations, but weak-willed Republican lawmakers don’t need much prodding. They are ready to capitulate to Democrats after a few tut-tut comments from liberal television news anchors.

That’s political suicide. The American Redistricting Project on Tuesday revealed the true impetus behind the unrest in Minnesota: Mr. Trump’s immigration rollback is affecting the decennial census.

The group’s analysis estimates that red states will gain seven electoral votes and congressional districts, while blue states will lose five. That’s a net swing of 13 votes and House seats, a major advantage for Republicans considering the tight margins of recent contests.

Democrats mask their demographic rigging stratagem under manufactured concern for the plight of the hordes who barged into the country. It’s a charade. They had no problem with deportations when Barack Obama and Joseph R. Biden were in the White House.

Because organized street thuggery in Minneapolis is meant to stop Mr. Trump from fulfilling his campaign promises, it’s an attack on democracy.

Worse, members of the unelected branch of government have enlisted in the cause. On Monday, U.S. District Judge Patrick J. Schiltz commanded acting ICE Director Todd M. Lyons to drop what he is doing and appear in court Friday so his honor can second-guess his actions.

Open border groups realized it takes only a $5 fee to file a habeas corpus lawsuit on behalf of an illegal. So, they swamp the system with hundreds of cookie-cutter complaints. The feds don’t have enough attorneys to answer swiftly enough to these “emergency” petitions, which give ICE four days to respond.

Judge Schiltz feigned offense at the Department of Homeland Security’s inability to keep up with the legal hurdles placed in its way by radical leftist groups. “The practical consequence of respondents’ failure to comply has almost always been significant hardship to aliens (many of whom have lawfully lived and worked in the United States for years and done absolutely nothing wrong),” he wrote in an order Monday.

Those words show that this magistrate has already determined the outcome. ICE prosecutors say the defendant deliberately broke multiple federal immigration statutes, but the judge opines that the accused has “lawfully lived” and done “nothing wrong.”

Fox News clarifies why that might be the case. The names of Judge Schiltz and his wife are on a list of “donors and volunteers” for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, one of the subversive outfits behind the flurry of litigation. Graham Ojala-Barbour, the immigration lawyer who filed the case that Judge Schiltz is using to compel Mr. Lyons’ appearance, is a former fellow at the Immigrant Law Center. Small world.

Congressional Republicans need to wake up and acknowledge the ongoing danger of allowing judicial partisans to substitute their personal political views for those of the public.
