House Democratic leaders told President Trump Tuesday that if he won’t fire Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, they will move to impeach her.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York and his top lieutenants said.
They demanded “dramatic changes” at DHS, starting with Ms. Noem’s ouster.
“The violence unleashed on the American people by the Department of Homeland Security must end forthwith. Kristi Noem should be fired immediately, or we will commence impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives,” the Democrats said.
Articles of impeachment have already been introduced by a rank-and-file Democrat and have quickly gained steam.
Mr. Trump on Tuesday said Ms. Noem won’t step down.
“No,” he said flatly in response to a reporter’s question.
He went on to defend her performance in securing the border, which he said has been overlooked.
“I think she’s doing a very good job,” the president said.
