OPINION:
Chameleon Abigail Spanberger pretended to be moderate long enough to be elected as Virginia’s 75th governor, but it hasn’t taken her long to reveal her true colors. She and her team recently announced their priorities and presented them to the Virginia General Assembly to codify.
Ironically, what brought Republican Glenn Youngkin to office four years ago was Virginia voters’ disdain for the Democrats’ social agenda, high taxes and failed economic policies. Unlike his opposition, Mr. Youngkin agreed that children belonged to parents, biological men shouldn’t play women’s sports, and the state should cooperate with its federal counterparts to deport the worst illegal aliens.
His policies reduced taxes and provided tax rebates. The economy thrived, and crime was dramatically reduced. Mr. Youngkin also made significant progress in cleaning up voter rolls and assuring election integrity.
Ms. Spanberger has chosen to be the antithesis of Mr. Youngkin. She has already announced her intent to make Virginia a sanctuary state and end cooperation with federal law enforcement to identify and deport even the most dangerous illegals. This means leaving gang members, drug traffickers, child molesters and other criminals in our communities to prey on our children and law-abiding citizens.
She also wants to reduce penalties for robbery, ban the arrests of illegals in courthouses and eliminate minimum mandatory sentences for criminals. She has taken steps to enable cheating and election fraud by allowing voting over the internet and extending the deadline for mail-in ballots.
When Democrats like Ms. Spanberger campaign, they try to sound like reasonable, rational, sensible people, but once elected, it’s always the same: Tax, spend, waste, steal and regulate more.
Virginians must take control of the General Assembly before the Democrats turn the commonwealth into the next Minnesota or California.
