The drummer for ’70s funk band The Ohio Players has debunked the legend that someone was murdered during the recording of the group’s 1975 hit song “Love Rollercoaster.”

Drummer James “Diamond” Williams explained that the scream heard at the 2:32 mark of the recording was bandmate Billy Beck, Yahoo Entertainment reported.

Over the years, speculation about the source of the sound mounted after a California disk jockey asked listeners to call in when they heard the scream.

It was rumored that the album’s cover model Ester Cordet was stabbed or that a woman was murdered.

Fans were still discussing the topic online before news broke.
