President Trump told senators at a breakfast on Nov. 5: “We have to get the country open. And the way we’re going to do it this afternoon is to terminate the filibuster.” Senate Majority Leader John Thune disagreed, saying the filibuster had benefited Republicans during Democratic majorities. That’s a loser’s philosophy.

Vince Lombardi didn’t call plays for the Packers based on fear of what the opposing team might do when they got the ball. “Should I go for the touchdown? But what happens if the other team gets the ball?” Those are thoughts he never had.

Do all the things that make the biggest impact in people’s lives. Balance the budget, codify Mr. Trump’s executive orders, eliminate every dollar of waste uncovered by the Department of Government Efficiency, make millionaires out of every taxpayer by privatizing Social Security, replace the income tax with a 3% consumption tax, require voter ID, place limits on campaign spending and enact term limits.

Pass so many things off the Republican wish list that no one in their right mind will ever vote for another big government Democrat.

As Vice President J.D. Vance said in October, “We cannot be afraid to do something because the left might do it in the future.” Fearing what Democrats will do without the filibuster is the strategy of a losing team.
