The NBA suspended Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder for three games on Saturday after league officials said he tried to swing at Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic last month.

Back-and-forth trash talk throughout the teams’ matchup on Dec. 28 — which the Lakers won 125-101 — led to a post-game confrontation in the tunnel between the two locker rooms.

NBA officials said Schroder left the visitors’ locker room at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles 40 minutes after the game to seek out a Lakers player, who several outlets identified as Doncic. The Kings guard then “confronted and attempted to strike” the Laker.

Schroder will be suspended without pay. He will miss Sacramento’s game against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, a rematch against the Lakers on Monday and a home game against the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

The Kings are 8-30. They hold the worst record in the Western Conference and the second-worst record in the NBA. Meanwhile, Doncic’s Lakers are 23-13, fifth in a competitive Western Conference playoff race.
