A man died Thursday after being stabbed at a Georgetown nonprofit that offers food to the homeless. The Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a suspect in the attack.

Police officers responded to Miriam’s Kitchen in the 2400 block of Virginia Avenue NW at 4:09 p.m. and found the adult male victim unconscious, not breathing and dealing with a stab wound. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was ultimately pronounced dead, police said, according to Allison Papson of Washington’s WTTG-TV.

A suspect in the attack has been arrested, with the suspected knife in the stabbing seized, police told another D.C. station, WJLA-TV. Neither the victim nor the suspect has been named publicly by officials.

No charges had formally been pressed as of Thursday night, according to George Washington University student paper The GW Hatchet. The university is close to Miriam’s Kitchen.

The Miriam’s Kitchen dining room is closed Friday. Its manager, Martha Wolf, told the nonprofit’s volunteers in an email that the incident “was an incredibly difficult and distressing event and there is still much that we are sorting out. Out of care for our staff, volunteers and guests, the dining room will be closed tomorrow,” according to the Hatchet.

The police ask that anyone with information call 202-727-9099 or submit an anonymous tip by texting 50411.
