Issues with frozen equipment led Amtrak to cancel 20 trains on various lines in the northeastern U.S., including to the District of Columbia.

The Amtrak Northeast alerts account said that “equipment unavailability was caused by weather issues that caused train parts to freeze, so we are working to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.”

At least 20 trains were affected Thursday and Friday, specifically the Northeast Regional trains 84, 111, 112, 113, 119, 130, 131, 173, 176 and 182, the Acela trains 2124, 2150, 2153, 2167, 2168, 2171 and 2192 and the Keystone Service trains 601, 607 and 644.

All of the Northeast Regional trains and all the Acela trains but one service Union Station in the District. The Keystone Service line runs between New York City and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which is about 107 miles west of Philadelphia.

The Acela 2192 train goes between New York City and Boston.

In a statement, Amtrak told WDVM-TV that it “is communicating directly with impacted customers with reservations on affected trains. These customers will typically be accommodated on the next available departing train or on a different day. Amtrak will waive additional charges for affected customers looking to change their reservations.”
