President Trump on Thursday blasted Rep. Thomas Massie, Kentucky Republican, as a “moron” during the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton, a bipartisan event focused on prayer and faith.

“He’s an automatic no. No matter what. There’s something wrong with him,” Mr. Trump said, referencing Mr. Massie’s opposition to legislation the president has championed.

“If we did welfare reform, if we did the greatest thing in the history for religion, no matter what we did, no matter how good it is,” Mr. Trump continued. “No matter what we do, this moron, no matter what it is.”

He added, “We’ll put [the top five things] in one bill. We’ll get a 100% vote, except for this guy named Thomas Massie. There’s something wrong with him. We call him Rand Paul Jr.”

Sen. Rand Paul is another Kentucky Republican who frequently opposes legislation endorsed by Mr. Trump and other Republicans.

Mr. Trump also mocked Mr. Massie’s chances of reelection. The president has backed Republican primary challenger Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL, whom Mr. Trump encouraged to run against the congressman.

Mr. Massie voted against Mr. Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill last year and vocally pushed to have all files related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein released to the public.

The attack on Mr. Massie came moments after the president thanked House Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican, for helping navigate his agenda through Congress despite the slim GOP majority.
