Maryland State Police said they broke up six illegal car rallies over the weekend in multiple counties along the Interstate 95 corridor.

Authorities said they arrested two people in the operation, which was carried out late Sunday in Anne Arundel, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

State police said they arrested Jared Rivera, 22, on several illegal gun charges. He was jailed in Prince George’s County.

They also took Reynaldo Prieto Gonzalez, 22, into custody after realizing he had outstanding warrants for assault in Baltimore, police said. He also was jailed in Prince George’s County.

The illegal rallies known as “sideshows,” which feature drivers doing burnouts and other wild stunts, were held in parking lots, on public roads and around industrial areas across the four counties, police said.

Officials said the sideshows took place in Beltsville, Bladensburg, Capitol Heights, Lanham and Jessup, where two were held.

State Police said their patrols helped thwart crowds of up to 100 people from attending the exhibitions and shutting down roadways.
