Rep. Al Green has been escorted out of a President Trump address for the second year in a row, after holding up a sign that says “Black people aren’t apes.”

The Texas Democrat unveiled his handwritten sign as Mr. Trump made his way down the aisle after entering the House Chamber on Tuesday. Mr. Green continued standing and holding up the sign even into the president starting his speech.

His sign appeared to be a reference to a video posted to Mr. Trump’s Truth Social earlier this month that depicted former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama as apes.

Several lawmakers attempted to take the sign, and Republican Sens. Roger Marshall of Kansas and Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma moved their seats to stand in front of Mr. Green to attempt to block him, but Mr. Green left soon after.

Rep. Troy Nehls, Texas Republican, attempted to grab the sign from Mr. Green’s hand as he walked out, to no avail.

Mr. Green was notably removed from Mr. Trump’s speech last year, which wasn’t called a State of the Union since it was his first year in office, after repeatedly waving his cane in the air and interrupting Mr. Trump’s speech.

He was later censured.
