Vice President J.D. Vance’s recent visit to Azerbaijan marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations. It demonstrated Washington’s continued engagement in the South Caucasus and its intention to deepen cooperation with Baku.

The signed charter between U.S. and Azerbaijan establishes a long-term framework for collaboration across three key areas: energy and regional connectivity, including trade and transit, economic investment, particularly in artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and security cooperation, including defense and counterterrorism.

The charter’s implementation is expected to accelerate infrastructure development, expand energy investments and facilitate mutually beneficial economic cooperation to enhance prosperity for the people of both countries through new jobs and business opportunities.

Before the visit, President Ilham Aliyev hosted a delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce representing companies from the energy, transportation, technology and food sectors.

Regional connectivity featured prominently during the meetings between the U.S. and Azerbaijan. Discussions included the next steps toward operationalizing the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, which will provide unimpeded, multimodal connection between mainland Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

This project aims to link railways, roads, pipelines, electricity transmission and digital infrastructure across Eurasia, transforming the South Caucasus into a hub for trade and investment along the Trans-Caspian Transport Route (the Middle Corridor).

The strengthened strategic partnership positions Azerbaijan as a key regional partner for the U.S. and supports broader goals of stability, connectivity and sustainable growth across the South Caucasus.
