The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia is on a manhunt for two men accused of murder who escaped from prison.
The two men, Kentravious Holmes, 21, and Rickey Martin, 20, escaped from the county jail in Americus, Georgia, 130 miles south of Atlanta, at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff’s office said on social media. The pair leapt off the jail’s roof.
“We began looking at the camera system, and we then determined and saw that the inmates jumped from the jail. We do know that they actually compromised the maintenance access door within the jail,” Sumter County Sheriff Eric Bryant told Macon’s WGXA.
He also said law enforcement was investigating a car theft reported on Monday near the jail to determine whether the two men could have stolen it as part of their escape.
Mr. Holmes faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, possessing a gun or knife during the commission of a felony, and two counts of unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution, according to jail records.
He is accused of killing another man in Americus in April.
Mr. Martin faces charges as one of three suspects in a separate February 2025 shooting that left two dead, including a 5-year-old girl, according to Georgia’s WALB.
He’s charged with two counts of felony murder and a count each of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and providing guns, liquor, drugs or other contraband to inmates, according to jail records.
The sheriff’s office described Mr. Holmes as a 5-foot-8-inch-tall Black man weighing roughly 155 pounds and having several distinct face and neck tattoos, including a dollar sign between his eyes, a broken heart, and the words “Baby Kay” above his right eye.
An updated photo provided by the sheriff’s office also showed Mr. Holmes wearing a necklace with a crucifix on it.
Mr. Martin was described as a Black man standing 5’4” and weighing roughly 120 pounds.
The sheriff’s office asks that anyone who has information on the two men’s location or anyone who sees them call 911 or 229-924-4094.
