The alleged ransom note for Nancy Guthrie, obtained by TMZ and other media by email, should be released (“New video released by Savannah Guthrie pleads for help from the public in finding missing mother,” Web, Feb. 9).

TMZ’s Harvey Levin has gone public with much of the information in the note, and there is no law enforcement reason to keep it under wraps. On the contrary, the wording and style of the note might give a clue to someone who may be familiar with the author’s writing style or expression.

More important, we are not told (nor has any reporter even asked the Pima County Sheriff or the FBI) about tracing the email to its source. The FBI has the forensic expertise to trace the source of emails, yet the public has been kept in the dark about whether it’s even trying in this case.

Sadly, time appears to be running out.
