Right-wing media personality Tucker Carlson said President Trump was “mocking me and every Christian” with his Easter Sunday threat to decimate Iran that included an expletive and ended with the phrase “Praise be to Allah.”
“How dare you speak that way on Easter morning to the country. Who do you think you are? You’re tweeting out the F word on Easter morning? ’You’ll be living in Hell’ — as if Hell is a place. Hell is a condition, and this is an example of that condition,” Mr. Carlson said in a video posted to social media on Monday.
He followed the video with an email from the Tucker Carlson Network warning that “Christians need to understand where Trump is taking us.”
In that email, he also complained that Mr. Trump didn’t put his hand on the Bible he was using to be sworn in during his second inauguration.
“All Christians, even those who voted for the president, should recognize how concerning that was,” the TCN email said. “Trump’s refusal to honor the Holy Book suggested he did not care about its message. His Easter morning Truth Social post, pictured above, reinforced that perception.”
Mr. Trump on Easter Sunday issued his ultimatum to Iran, promising to destroy the country’s bridges and power plants if it didn’t accede to his demands.
“There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F——— Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell — JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” the president wrote.
Mr. Carlson said that was mocking the Muslim population of Iran.
“If you seek a religious war, that is a good idea. The message of all faith at the biggest picture level is the message in our Bible, which is ’you are not God’ — and only if you think you are, you talk this way,” the former Fox News host said. “This is a mockery not just of Islam, but it is a mockery of Christianity.”
Mr. Trump, in an interview with the New York Post, fired back.
“Tucker’s a low IQ person that has absolutely no idea what’s going on,” the president said. “He calls me all the time; I don’t respond to his calls. I don’t deal with him. I like dealing with smart people, not fools.”
