One of the WNBA’s biggest stars is on the move. The Chicago Sky traded forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for a pair of first-round picks on Monday.

Reese confirmed the move on her social media accounts. The Sky acquired first-rounders in 2027 and 2028 in exchange for Reese and rights to a second-round pick swap in 2028.

“An Angel’s DREAM,” the Maryland native posted on X. “ATL WHAT UP?!”

The surprising exchange arrived just as the WNBA prepared for a free-agency frenzy ahead of next week’s draft.

Reese had become a superstar since joining the league in 2024. She’s a two-time All-Star who led the WNBA in rebounds in both of her two seasons, averaging 12.9 rebounds per game.

Her rivalry with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is widely credited with helping the league enjoy exponential growth over the last three years, regularly setting records in attendance and TV viewership.

Teams like the Washington Mystics have often moved their home games against the Sky to larger venues to accommodate the increased demand.

But Reese’s relationship with the Sky deteriorated late last season. The LSU product voiced her frustrations about the team’s losing record to the media, which ultimately led to a half-game suspension. Chicago officials cited “statements detrimental to the team.”

“I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out,” Reese told the Chicago Tribune. “Obviously, I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”
