OPINION:
What has happened to Britain? Keir Starmer refuses to help the United States with Iran and won’t even attempt to open the Strait of Hormuz, from where it gets much more of its oil than the U.S. does.
Iran directly attacked a British military base in Cyprus, and the Iranian regime has released propaganda videos showing British soldiers running in fear of the rain of Iranian missiles.
What happened to British honor and resilience?
England was the country of Winston Churchill. It defied the odds against a more powerful foe and absorbed the destruction of the Blitz. It stayed strong against Adolf Hitler. A hundred years prior, it stood alone against France and the militarily genius Napoleon Bonaparte and withstood a continental trade embargo.
Compared with these challenges, Iran should be nothing.
Britain has not come to our aid, nor has France, Italy, Germany or Spain. Yet all expect the United States to remain in Europe as a deterrence against their foes. The U.S. is expected to contribute the majority to the defense of Ukraine, while some European Union countries have contributed very little.
In the 1990s, the U.S. took action against the genocide in the Balkans while Europe dithered. We left blood on the European battlefields, rebuilt Europe with the Marshall Plan and saved it from Soviet domination.
Yet Europe won’t even let us move supplies through our bases on their soil. How is President Trump the bad friend here?
