Police said Wednesday that two teens accused of shooting a man in a Germantown, Maryland, grocery store are in custody and are facing attempted murder charges.
Suspects Marcus Braithwaite, 19, of Germantown and Demba Tandia, 16, of Montgomery Village entered the Giant Food store in the 18300 block of Leaman Farm Road at about 8:40 p.m. on March 20, the Montgomery County Police Department said.
The victim entered the store about a minute later, and police allege that Mr. Braithwaite and Mr. Tandia chased the victim through the store. One of the suspects opened fire at the victim after he reached the front of the store, where other shoppers and store employees were present.
The police did not specify which suspect is accused of firing the gunshots. The victim, whom police have not named, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Braithwaite was arrested in Germantown on Tuesday and is being held in custody while awaiting a bond hearing. Mr. Tandia was arrested in Sterling, Virginia, last week and is awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.
Both are charged with attempted first-degree murder, and the police said Mr. Tandia is being charged as an adult.
A rifle muzzle and written notes believed to possibly have gang signs on them were seized during the arrest of Mr. Tandia, according to the Loudoun Times-Mirror. The newspaper said that Mr. Tandia is a Sterling resident.
