Rapper Megan Thee Stallion got sick in the middle of performing in Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” on Tuesday and was taken to the hospital.
Her representative Didier Morais told The Hollywood Reporter that “Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
Her hairstylist Kellon Deryck posted on social media, “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.”
The nature of the illness was not specified, though the New York City Fire Department told TMZ that it responded to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre “for a person who was having trouble breathing.”
The rapper started her limited run with the musical, her first Broadway production, on March 24 and is slated to appear as the character Zidler through May 17.
The role is traditionally male, and Megan Thee Stallion is the first “female-identifying performer” to play Zidler in any showing worldwide, according to Playbill.
Producer Carmen Pavlovic said last month, according to Playbill, “This historic casting is a major part of our closing celebrations: our farewell gift to Broadway audiences. … We want our show to go out with a spectacular bang, and Megan is the force of nature to lead us there. And yes, there will be a hint of music from her own iconic catalogue. It’s an unmissable moment for both Megan’s fans and ours.”
