Facebook wants people poking each other, using a feature that never went away but has a new element.
“It’s time to start poking again,” Facebook wrote in a caption on sister platform Instagram Thursday.
The feature notifies users when they’ve been poked by someone and lets them poke back.
The social media platform added a new poke button to people’s profiles for their friends to click on, Facebook said.
Users can also see how many times they’ve poked someone else on a dedicated page for pokes, with emojis displayed when a bunch of pokes have been exchanged between users.
In a post on its own platform, Facebook uploaded a bunch of images suggesting pokes should be used for reaching out to crushes, as an alternative to communicating via memes, for example.
The company noticed the number of pokes spiked 13 times over last year after poking started showing up in the Facebook search bar, according to Engadget.
