A Secret Service car caught fire Monday morning in the District. No one was injured and investigators ruled it was accidental.
The fire broke out in the Secret Service car while it was near 18th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW at 9:31 a.m., D.C. Fire and EMS said in a post on social media.
An X post from Washington area media freelancer Andrew Leyden, quoted in the post from District fire officials, claimed the SUV was being used as part of a protection detail for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Secret Service has not publicly said whether the car was being used for Mr. Netanyahu’s visit.
“After an investigation by the Office of the DC Fire Marshal, it was determined that the fire was caused by an electrical issue. … There were no impacts to our protective operations,” the Secret Service said in a statement to Washington-area TV station WJLA-TV.
