Michael McKenna is incorrect that “Israel seems intent on undoing the Abraham Accords” (Web, Sept. 28). Israel is intent on saving the hostages that Hamas is torturing and depriving of food and medicine in the tunnels under Gaza City.

They are 20 poor, tortured, starving souls Mr. McKenna doesn’t deem worthy of even one word in his self-deemed brilliant analysis of the tragedy in the Middle East. They are 20 innocent people snatched from the south of Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, whose only sin is that they went to a concert or lived near Palestinians. Twenty civilians whose captivity is an ongoing international war crime for 725 days.

Hamas could have ended this war 23 months ago by letting the hostages come home, but it persists in using them as human shields alongside its own civilian population.

Every day those innocent civilians are imprisoned is another day that Hamas commits an international war crime. Every day Hamas allows its own people to starve by stealing food aid is an international war crime.

It was Hamas that violated the ceasefire that had existed for years with Israel and chose to rape and mutilate innocent women and burn babies alive on Oct. 7, 2023.

Hamas was successful not only in perpetuating the largest single-day massacre on the Jewish people since the Holocaust but also in persuading many in the media like Mr. McKenna that they should blame the victims of terrorism rather than the terrorists themselves.

Shame on you, Mr. McKenna. You’ve been duped. You owe an apology to the hostages and the Jewish people for your slanderous and libelous accusations.

It is not Israel that is intent on undoing the Abraham Accords; it is Hamas. With the help of journalists like Mr. McKenna, Hamas is succeeding.
